    Boy Erased

Wednesday, November 21, 2018 1:15:02 AM | (Age Not Specified)

An 18 year-old son of a minister is sent to conversion camp to get the "gay" scrubbed out of him. The film is rich in adult themes---the continuing view of homosexuality as sin; the conflict of sexuality and fundamentalist; the scamish nature of many treatment centers in general; the parental conflict of children's values different from your own. Nicole Kidman floats along for the first 3/4 of the film as the quiet passive wife, but as her character steps up to keep her family from falling apart, Kidman shows her acting chops and takes over the film. It's a remarkable performance. --gurubob---------------------------------------90/100

Great movie from beginning to end.Viola Davis was excellent and other cast did a good job too. As for me I could see it a second time.

Not a jumpy scare kind of horror movie, but one with more gore and disturbing content that makes it hard to watch but also hard to pull away. Keep an open mind if you go see this one.

    A Private War

Tuesday, November 20, 2018 10:30:24 PM | (Age Not Specified)

This is a very powerful and moving movie. All of the scenes are realistic, and the acting is extraordinary. The movie shows the human (or inhuman) side of war as experienced by ordinary people. The courage of the journalist and photographer made it possible for the world to see. The movie moves along and holds one's interest from beginning to end--very well made.

I had hoped to enjoy this film but I must admit that I expected something more realistic. Instead, I saw a film about a implausable, if not improbable, vengeance mission by four women to seek vengeance for the deaths of their gangster husbands/partners who robbed a black crime orgnaization. It was quite silly and truly disappointing. I like Steve McQueen's directorial works such as "Hunger", "Shame" and "Twelve Years a Slave" but this film was poorly written, directed and cast. Mediocre acting, sloppy script and simply a bad movie!

If you like Bradley Cooper, stay away from this one. You'll lose respect.
